Artist's Comments

This was a very quick 'relief' watercolor painting of Azula. It was a fun exercise, and I was pleased with the turnout. So I decided to upload! The painting took about half an hour. I hope to do more like this in the near future.

Be sure to check out the rest of my Avatar pieces!

Ahh she was a good character, in the fact that she reaaallly made you hate her, man I hated her so bad.

Favorite part of this is the top and the eyes.

Haha Yes. Azula is the character everybody loved to hate! She was so powerful.
:matrixfight: I think part of this reason is, in a strange subconscious way, she may of reminded audiences of that relentless bully they experienced from their early childhood. Just watching Azula, and how she treated the other characters on the show, her deviousness, elicited the same terrible emotions I felt when I was bullied in my childhood. I was amazed as to how well the writers could capture that essence and re-create it in the show.

I was awestruck as to how well the writers captured the childhood sibling rivalry between Zuko and Azula in the episode 'Zuko Alone.' I remember thinking "Man, one of the writers must have kids, because that is a perfect depiction of childhood quarrels." And the way that they portrayed Zuko to react to such circumstances in the show was so real. They did such a good job with character development. It is so easy to feel what these characters felt. I guess that is part of the reason Avatar has been so successful, the characters are such accurate portrayals of real personalities. Empathy between characters and audiences is strong with this show. Whenever Avatar came into my mind, I could only think of one word to describe it: Authentic.

Amazing picture! It's really well done, and I like seeing traditional fanart every once and awhile. This really symbolizes the mindset of Azula in the Finale for me, and I like it alot. It's something you normally don't see and I think the difference is what makes this picture so appealing.

*sniffle* So true.

Well Thank you very much! Yes it is quite refreshing to see traditional fanart these days isn't it? I love it when I see the traditional stuff. Thank you, I am glad that you feel this painting has captured Azula's breakdown in the Finale. It was so sad to see Azula finally reach the level of insanity that she did in the end, but we all knew it was coming. She was a very broken person from the start. The finale was excellent by the way. Thank you very much for appreciating my watercolor painting! I am so delighted that you found my picture appealing!

You're very welcome! Yes, it is quite nice to see traditional art once and awhile, especially when it's done this well. You are a very talented waterpainter (I hope that one day I'll be as good as you!)

Awww well Thank you so much you sweetie!   Believe it or not, I am actually pretty new to the trade. I mean, I fell in love with watercolors some where in high school, but you see, I never really picked it up and practiced it like how I should. I did a few assignments for class, but never really practiced at home. I had every intention of practicing, and I bought a wide variety of colors, but had so many other art obligations that kept me from the watercolors. But now, high school is over and I am going to rekindle my affair with the watercolors and am going to practice! I love Avatar so much, and adore these characters and started doing these paintings last week as a 're-introduction' to the craft of watercolors. I hope to keep a steady pace and continue the craft successfully. But I plan on doing more of these Avatar pieces as they are fun experiments and great play. Thank you! :)

You are so welcome! ^_^ I've done a few watercolor paintings myself, but I really prefer graphite and charcoal. I've always had a really difficult time painting with watercolor, so that's one of the reasons I liked this picture so much because I could understand the skill it took to color it. I can't wait to see any future Avatar pieces from you! :D

I hate the bumper stickers reading AMERICAN NATIVE. What are you, an Allosaur? The human animal is an African native. On a roadtrip. There is no Homo sapiens americaensis
